Questions About Beginning Band ??
When will band begin?
Because band is part of each student’s daily schedule, band begins on the very first day of school. Students will participate in instrument fittings during the first two weeks of school and instrument lessons will begin during the beginning of September. How do I register for band? Go to www.cfbands.com, click on the link labeled Register for Beginning Band and complete the form. Confirmation of your enrollment in band will be sent home with students in mid-May. |
How does the program work?
Band students begin on one of five different instruments: flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone or bells (percussion). Band is a year-long class that meets every day as part of the students’ regular schedule. Do students get a grade for band? YES. Band is a class in each students’ schedule they will attend every day. Students will receive a grade for their work at the end of the each grading period. This grade will be based on their preparedness for lessons, participation in class, completing practice tasks, performance on assigned playing tests and performance on concerts. How do I select an instrument? At the beginning of the school year, students will have the opportunity to try all of the beginning band instruments and be recommended for the instrument where they demonstrate the most natural ability. This will take place during the first two weeks of school under the supervision of the district instrumental music faculty. Results of these instrument fittings will be shared by the end of August and parents and students will have the opportunity to discuss their instrument choice. How do I get an instrument? Because students are being fitted for instruments at the beginning of the school year, there is no need to secure an instrument at this time. Details about this process will be made available at the completion of the instrument fitting process during the first weeks of the school year. |
